All new exhibit and special event spotlight the unmatched power of sports to build unity beyond the game.
Dallas, Texas — The George W. Bush Presidential Center announced that its new exhibition Game Changer: United by Sports will open to the public on Sept. 6 at the George W. Bush Presidential Museum in Dallas.
The exhibit will be on display in the Bradford M. Freeman Exhibition Gallery at the Bush Center through Jan. 10, 2027.
Game Changer brings to life the power of sports in bridging divides and fostering unity across cultures through rare artifacts and inspirational stories. Visitors will explore pivotal moments when sports brought our nation together, such as President Bush’s first pitch at the World Series in New York after 9/11, and learn how legendary athletes like Jesse Owens and Jackie Robinson inspired change far beyond the game.
To further highlight the unifying role of sports, the Bush Center will also host a special Engage at the Bush Center, presented by NexPoint event on Tuesday, Sept. 16, featuring legendary sports broadcasters Bob Costas and Joe Buck. They will reflect on how sports transcend competition to bring people together and will underscore the central message of Game Changer – that sports are more than a game.
“Game Changer highlights how sports are intertwined with our nation’s history and the defining moments that have put America on the world stage,” said Teresa Lenling, Director of the George W. Bush Presidential Museum. “This exhibit spotlights historic milestones in sports that are often overlooked in history books yet have played a powerful role in how America is seen by the world and how we see ourselves. Hosting this exhibit at the Bush Center is especially meaningful given President Bush’s lifelong love of sports and belief in their ability to bring people together.”
Credentialed media are welcome to visit the new exhibit for a first look the morning of Sept. 6. Media should apply for credentials at bushcenter.org/credentials by Friday, Sept. 5, at 12 p.m. Follow-up instructions will be sent to credentialed media when registration is closed.
A dedicated gallery celebrating North Texas sports will be featured in the exhibit, including a changing selection of memorabilia from local teams that reflect the passion of their fans and the pride these teams inspire in their communities.
Admission to view Game Changer is included with the purchase of a ticket to visit the Bush Museum’s permanent exhibit, which includes steel beams from the World Trade Center and a full-size replica of the Oval Office. Tickets are available for purchase here.
Images of the exhibit will be available upon request this fall. For more information, contact Hannah Fallon at [email protected] or visit the Game Changer: United by Sports webpage.
